An Apple A Day I

This work, completed earlier last week, started my interest in the apples studies.

Today was full of distractions. I spent some time working on small charcoal sketches of still life arrangements I set up in the studio. I don't have much for fabric so I am using various art papers for backgrounds and bases. Fabric remnants is on my shopping list!

An Apple A Day II

This is one of the apple studies I completed last week. It is 11X14 on Mi-Teintes using only Rembrandts pastels.

I initially created this blog in 2007 for the purpose of journaling about my experiences as an art teacher. Unfortunately, I never found the time to get started. After teaching art for two wonderful years, I decided I wanted time to develop my skills as an artist. During the past couple of weeks I have spent some time thinking about setting goals. One goal is to launch this blog site. Second, is to spend time in my studio at least five days a week for the purpose of creating art. Third, to share my studio experiences on this site.

I enjoy working in several art mediums. At this time I am working in soft pastels. The medium is fairly new to me so I have much to learn. Today I set up an apple and cups still life and worked from that. My perspective on the cups is more off than on. The yellow cup is to bright I feel. I will try this still life again soon.
